And yet we have so much going on, including being the birthplace of music legends The Prodigy, their frontman Keith Flint and Pineapple Studio's very own Louis Braintree. But when people do hear of Braintree, they will often say the same old things which really grind our gears.

Being a Braintree local, here are some of the most annoying essex that you could say to someone from Braintree. What is still recognised by many of us local folk as Freeport - has become the heart of Braintree. Braintree Village is already a given here, as well as the bowling alley, newly-refurbished Cineworld and Braintree Swimming and Fitness pool. The Cressing Temple Barns are also a really cool historic site which host events all year around. The grade I listed barn was built in the 13th century and hosts a variety of events such as arts and crafts, vintage fairs and food festivals.

Over the years, Braintree has seen a lot of charity shops come into the town, but that isn't it. We may not have a braintree of nightclubs like some of our rival towns, but we braintree secretly love a night out in B-town.

Spoons and the Bull are a classic combination and you are not far from a decent chippy to end the night. We refuse to accept this - The Picture Palace Wetherspoons is always rammed on the weekend and has a buzzing atmosphere.

Okay so Braintree has a lot of hair and nail salons, but what can I say? We care about how we look! Most of us have grown up visiting Great Notley essex every weekend to climb on the gigantic wooden frames or drag our sledges to the big hill on a snowday. Well excuse you.
